FBISE Federal Board Intermediate Guide — Admissions, Date Sheets & Results
The Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE), Islamabad, runs the SSC and HSSC exams for federal institutions — and its system works a little differently from the provincial BISE boards. Students new to it often get confused. This guide explains who studies under FBISE, how its exam cycle (including the 2nd annual examination) works, how college admissions connect with the board, and how to get your date sheets and results through the official channels.

Admissions: the college admits you, the board examines you
New FBISE students often mix up two separate things, so let's clear this up first. Admission to intermediate is granted by a college (or, for private candidates, handled directly through the board's admission process) — federal colleges in Islamabad, for example, admit students on merit through their own announced process. Registration and examination are the board's job: your institution registers you with FBISE, the board issues your roll number slip and date sheet, conducts your exams and declares your result. Simple rule: for admission questions, go to the college; for exam, date sheet and result questions, the board's website is your source.
The FBISE exam cycle — 1st Annual and 2nd Annual
FBISE conducts its main HSSC examinations as the 1st Annual examinations, and then holds 2nd Annual examinations later in the same cycle. That 2nd Annual sitting is a genuinely useful thing: if you failed a subject — or you want to improve your marks — you get a second chance within the same cycle instead of waiting a full year. A few points to remember:
- Both sittings follow official notifications: admission forms, fees and last dates for each sitting are announced on fbise.edu.pk.
- Date sheets for each sitting are published on the board's website before the exams; roll number slips follow the same channels described in our date sheet and roll number slip guide.
- Improvement rules — how many subjects you can re-appear in, and how the better result is counted — are the ones printed in the board's notification for that sitting. Read it before you submit your form.
Date sheets
FBISE publishes HSSC date sheets on its official website ahead of each examination sitting, covering the theory papers; practical schedules are notified as the board directs. Download the date sheet for your exact part (I or II), group and sitting — and check the board's notifications again near the exams. Boards do occasionally revise a paper's date, and only the latest notice counts.
How to check an FBISE intermediate result
- Online: Open fbise.edu.pk, go to the Results section, select your HSSC examination (Part I or II, and the sitting), and enter your roll number — or use the name search where it's offered. Save or print the marks page.
- By SMS: Type FB, leave a space, type your roll number, and send the message to 5050. Your result will be returned by SMS.
- Gazette: The complete result gazette is issued through the board's portal with the announcement; search it by name or roll number (useful for institutions and for students who lost a roll number).
As with every board, the FBISE website slows down at the announcement hour. If your result doesn't load, don't keep refreshing — the SMS service and the gazette are your fastest backups. Our general result-checking guide covers this in detail.
Useful official channels
- Website: fbise.edu.pk — notifications, date sheets, results, forms and fee schedules.
- SMS result service: "FB <roll number>" to 5050, as published by the board.
- Board office: FBISE headquarters, Sector H-8/4, Islamabad — for certificate, migration and correction matters, following the procedure on the board's website.
A note on dates: FBISE announces every schedule — admission forms, date sheets, results — through its own notifications. I report FBISE dates on Pak Edu Point only from those notifications; anything circulating earlier on social media is unconfirmed, whatever it claims.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the SMS format for the FBISE result?
Type FB, add a space, then your roll number, and send it to 5050. Your result will come back by SMS — that's the format FBISE publishes in its result announcements.
What is the difference between FBISE 1st Annual and 2nd Annual exams?
The 1st Annual is the main examination sitting of the cycle. The 2nd Annual is another sitting held in the same cycle, where students who failed a subject — or who want to improve their marks under the board's rules — can re-appear. Schedules and eligibility for each sitting come from FBISE's official notifications.
Does FBISE itself give admission to colleges?
No. Colleges admit students through their own announced merit process. FBISE's job starts after that — it registers those students, conducts their board examinations and issues their results and certificates. Private candidates deal with the board's admission process directly, as notified.
Where do I get my FBISE date sheet and roll number slip?
Date sheets are published on fbise.edu.pk. Regular students get their roll number slips through their institutions, and the board's website carries the online slip services and instructions for candidates. See our step-by-step date sheet and roll number slip guide for the full process.
I am shifting from a BISE board to an FBISE institution. What do I need?
You'll generally need a migration certificate (NOC) from your previous board and your previous result record. The admitting institution and FBISE's website describe the exact documents and process — and don't leave it late: arrange the migration before the new institution's registration deadline.
